The mission of the Planning, Zoning and Geographical Information Services Department is to enforce Foley, Alabama's motto of "...the Forward City..." by providing orderly and controlled growth for its citizenry combined with superior customer service in matters relating to land development and redevelopment. We constantly strive to ensure that Building Codes for both commercial and residential structures are met, thus ensuring for the safety of each and every resident.
This department within the City of Foley deals with day to day as well as long-range planning issues. We serve the Planning Commission, the Board of Adjustment and Appeals, the Mayor and City Council, and the Construction Board of Adjustment and Appeals. Services provided include but are not limited to the following:

Q. What will I need to obtain a permit?
A.We offer a Contractors Package which lists items needed for processing the application, this may be downloaded from the website. Q. What will the permit cost be?
A.The Inspections Department follows a pre-determined fee schedule. Please feel free to contact us for more information. Q. How long will it take to process the application?
A.The time frame varies according to complexity of the project, you will be notified when the permit is ready and may be picked up. Q. How much time is needed to schedule an inspection?
A.We prefer at least a 24-hour notice for scheduling inspections. Q. How do I determine my zoning district?
A.In order to determine a zoning district, confirmation of your location is needed - for example, a tax parcel identification number. Q. What is allowed in a particular zoning district? What am I allowed to build?
A.The allowed uses vary depending on your zoning district. The Zoning Ordinance contains uses allowed, setbacks, area requirements and other information relating to the zoning district. Q. What size sign am I permitted to have?
A.Signage is determined by zoning district, which is based on your physical location. The Zoning Ordinance contains Sign Regulations. Q. What is needed to subdivide my property?
A.It varies based on the type of subdivision requested. The Subdivision Regulations contain information related to the process and requirements. Planning Commission applications and deadline schedules are available on the web site. Q. Can I purchase a city map or zoning map?
